Read about our student of the month here!
1. Tell us about yourself!
I’m 18, born and raised in Louisiana. I’ve been homeschooled most of my life and ended up with a lot of time to put into my hobbies because of that. I’m also a big fan of moths, my favorite species is the saltmarsh tiger.
2. What is your favorite hobby?
Drawing and animation share the spot as my favorite hobby with writing as a close third. I’ve been interested in the first for longer than I can remember.
3. What got you interested in music?
I find songs an amazing way of expressing ideas and emotions. I’ve always been interested in writing them and of course that’s a lot more useful if you know how to sing.
4. What has been the biggest thing you've discovered since starting music lessons with us?
Truthfully, the thing I expected the least was that I actually have a pretty good high range. I mean I’ve known I could make horrible screeching noises at high frequencies, didn’t know I could sing like that.
5. What is one of your life goals?
My only goal in life is to make the art that I wished I could see as a kid. I want it for myself and I want it for the people who share my tastes.
6. Anything else you would like to mention?
If you’re interested in one art form it’s always worth it to dabble in another. Spread out through different disciplines and see if you can bring back those experiences to influence your passion. Even if you just dip your toes in, it’s worth it.
7. What would you tell a friend about the Music Academy of Acadiana?
It’s effective, I’ve seen a lot of improvement. Maybe I’d just show them an old recording of me trying to sing compared to now and leave it at that.
Make sure that you attend your lessons, show consistent practice and ask your teacher to
nominate you for a student of the month entry!
